Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has geared up to announce the company’s first dual camera smartphone in India. Manu Jain, Xiaomi’s global vice president, has confirmed Xiaomi’s first dual camera smartphone in India will see the light of day as early as next month. Mr Jain, however, has not revealed more details with regards to what smartphone his company is planning to announce in India next month. He tweeted a picture of himself, which is likely taken from the same device he is referring.
Currently, Xiaomi has four dual camera smartphones in its portfolio: Xiaomi Redmi Pro, Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus, Xiaomi Mi 6, and Xiaomi Mi 5X. So, we are expecting Xiaomi to announce either one of these devices in India. or else it could be an entirely new phone altogether. Given that Xiaomi’s Redmi lineup is popular among the budget-conscious crowd, Redmi Pro could be the upcoming smartphone to announce in the country. Although Xiaomi Redmi Pro first announced in July last year with two SoC variants, MediaTek Helio X20 and Helio X25, Xiaomi could announce Redmi Pro in India with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC running under the hood.
In other news, Xiaomi Mi 5X dual camera smartphone became official along with MIUI 9 earlier this month. So, there is a possibility Xiaomi could announce Mi 5X in India to reduce the delay with regards to MIUI 9 rollout. Powering Xiaomi Mi 5X is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC bundled with Adreno 506 GPU for graphics.
It has been a long time since Xiaomi announced its last Mi-branded flagship smartphone in the Indian market, which happens to be Xiaomi Mi 5. Although Xiaomi later went on to announce its flagship Mi 5S, Mi 5S Plus, and Mi 6 in China, these smartphones have made their ways into India just yet. Because Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus and Xiaomi Mi 6 features dual rear cameras, the company could be planning to bring one of these flagship devices in the Indian market.
It should go without saying, things we have mentioned in this report are speculative, and Xiaomi is yet to reveal more specifics. So, we recommend you should take this story with a pinch of salt.
