Xiaomi announced that it has started Android 8.0 Oreo-based MIUI 9 beta program for its Mi Mix 2 users. Xiaomi on its official forum has listed the whole process about how to enroll into the program and become a beta tester. As per the post on the forum, this is a closed beta for a select number of users who will be allowed to enroll and install the ROM. This is a very different approach compared to its competitors like OnePlus, Samsung, Oppo and Vivo amongst others.
Xiaomi is likely to turn it into an open beta program once most of the kinks are ironed out. The company hasn’t yet announced anything regarding the timeline of the rollout of the final Android 8.0 Oreo update. As per a report by GSMArena, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 users will have to wait for a few months before the company releases the final build of Android Oreo given the old trends that the company has been following.
This announcement comes just months after the company launched Android 7.1 Nougat based MIUI 9 ROM for its smartphones.
If we are to go by the beta, the company has completely redesigned MIUI 9 to look very close to stock Android. Additionally, more capabilities have been added to the ROM. One such feature is App Vault, which allows users to pin an app to the home screen and quickly access it without opening it. Interestingly, the move towards a more stock-like UI from Xiaomi comes just months after launching its first Android One smartphone, Mi A1 which runs stock Android.
