The last version, MIUI 8 was launched in May of last year. MIUI was based on Google’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, and now the new MIUI will be based on Android 7.0 Nougat. Xiaomi made the announcement of the new MIUI release date on their official forum.
Xiaomi on July 26 will be launching the skin update along with the Xiaomi Mi 5X, the mid-range smartphone. The launch is scheduled to start at 14:00 hours (GMT + 8) at the China National Conventional Center.
MIUI 9: Features
MIUI has always brought some interesting features with it like the MIUI 8 brought scrolling screenshots, Dual Space, updater Calculator app, Second Space, MIUI Caller ID, integrated payment, and more. Seeing this, Xiaomi might bring various new interesting features to the MIUI 9 as well. Some of the speculated features of the new MIUI are Multi-window support, Quick-reply from notifications, a revamped lock screen, new themes that will be built-in and much more which will be released after the rollout. The ROM is also said to remove a few rarely used features such as Child Mode, contact card and Showtime. As of now, Xiaomi has only shown off the lock screen and the home screen to users and refrained from confirming much else.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed in a press note before that the MIUI 9 skin will be much smoother, stable, and powerful than MIUI 8. We have a full list of smartphones that will be getting the MIUI 9 update, which covers most of the more relevant smartphones from Xiaomi today such as the Mi Max 2 which was launched today, and even the Redmi Note 4. It should be noted that the release date for MIUI 9 is currently only for the China ROM and NOT the global version of the OS.However, we do expect Xiaomi to start rolling out the universal version of their OS very soon after the China launch.
