Xiaomi has introduced a whole new Xiaomi Redmi Y smartphone series in India today. The Chinese smartphone maker has launched two new smartphones under its Y series- the Redmi Y1 and the Redmi Y1 Lite.
Talking about the brand-new Redmi Y1 first, the smartphone features a 16MP front-facing camera and carries a dedicated front LED flash module. The camera sensor has a “Pixel binning” technology that is meant to reduce noise and improve low light quality. The front camera comes with f/2.0 aperture and has 76.4-degree wide angle lens. It has face recognition feature as well. As for the rear camera, it has a 13-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. The back camera comes with real-time, burst mode, panorama and HDR mode.
The phone features a 5.5-inch HD (1280×720 pixel resolution)display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection on top to avoid scratch on the front panel. Coming to the hardware front, the Redmi Y1 is powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor. Xiaomi has brought two variants of the new Redmi smartphone- 3GB RAM/32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM/64GB onboard storage. Interestingly, the Redmi Y has a dedicated microSD slot which means you can insert two SIM card and a microSD as well. The storage is further expandable of up to 128GB.
The handset flaunts brushed metallic design with fine antenna lines running on top and bottom of the rear panel. The back camera is stacked above the top antenna line. The fingerprint sensor is embedded at the back. The MIUI 9 custom Android ROM will be available for the smartphone in the mid of November.
As we mentioned, Xiaomi has unveiled one more device under the Redmi Y series, the Redmi Y Lite. The smartphone features a 5.5-inch HD display with 720×1280 resolution. It is fueled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset paired with 2GB of RAM. Internal storage is at 16GB and it has expandable storage support of up to 128GB via microSD card. It packs a 13MP rear camera with PDAF support and a 5MP front-facing camera. Unlike the Y1, the Redmi Y Lite doesn’t feature a fingerprint scanner. Both the handsets pack a battery backup of 3080mAh that promises up to 10 days standby time.
As far as pricing goes, the Redmi Y1 3GB RAM model is launched at a price of Rs. 8,999, meanwhile the 4GB RAM tags a price of Rs. 10,999. The Redmi Y1 Lite, on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 6,999. Both the handsets are made in India and will be available exclusively on e-retail site Amazon India. Xiaomi in partnership with telecom operator Idea will offer 280GB 4G data to new Idea prepaid subscribers.
Both the smartphones, Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite will be available from November 8 at 12 noon via Amazon India and Mi.com. It will be subsequently available across offline stores- Mi Home, Mi prefered partners. Xiaomi has also announced its new offline retail partnership with Reliance Digital at the event.
