Xiaomi’s upcoming Redmi smartphone, the Redmi Note 5A has been on the leak radar quite for some time. The phone recently said to have got certified from Chinese telecom certification authority, TENAA. And Xiaomi has now confirmed that it will unveil the smartphone at an event in China on August 21. The company took the Chinese micro blogging site Weibo to make the announcement.
The Redmi Note 5A is tipped to come in two variants, with the high-end version offering a fingerprint sensor and the entry-level version expected to be a bit bigger than the Redmi 4A. According to the TENAA listing, both the variants have been expected to feature nearly identical internals.
Based on the TENAA listing, the Redmi Note 5A could feature a 5.5-inch (1280×720 resolution) HD display. It is said to be powered by a 1.4GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor paired with Adreno 308 GPU. The handset might offer 2gigabytes of RAM and 16GB internal storage which could be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. On the software front, the Redmi 5A is expected to run Android 7.1.1 Nougat with Xiaomi’s new MIUI 9 skin on top.
As far as the optics are concerned, the phone is suggested to carry a 13-megapixel rear sensor with LED flash and a 5-megapixel sensor up front for selfies. As per the listing, the phone will pack a 3000mAh battery. The Redmi Note 5A is tipped to come with hybrid dual-SIM and 4G VoLTE support. The phone could weigh around 150 grams and measure 153.1×76.3×7.3mm. Reports earlier have suggested that the Redmi Note 5A could hold a price of Yuan 999 (roughly Rs. 9,800).
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A launch event is scheduled to take place in China on August 21 at 7:30 PM China Time (5 PM IST).
