As per the new information, Xiaomi’s upcoming bezel-less smartphone Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is tipped to launch on September 12, the same day as the next Apple iPhone 8. Although Xiaomi hasn’t officially revealed much with regards to when the successor to last year’s Mi Mix will become official, several reports and speculations are making rounds online, suggesting imminent release. If Xiaomi decides to launch the Mi Mix 2 on September 12, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise.
If you recall, Xiaomi chief Lei Jun hinted earlier this year that the Mi Mix 2 could be launched in the second half of the year. Jun didn’t confirm the actual date of release, though. No official confirmation with regards to the actual date of Mi Mix 2 to launch is out so far. So, it should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Earlier this year, Jun confirmed in a Weibo post that Xiaomi is roping in a French designer Philippe Starck to design the company’s bezel-less Mi Mix 2 flagship smartphone. Strack previously worked with Chinese smartphone maker to design its first nearly bezel-less Mi Mix. According to rumours, the Mi Mix 2 could sport a whopping 93 percent screen-to-body ratio as opposed to 91.3 percent screen-to-body-ratio on the Mi Mix. The smartphone is tipped to feature a similar ceramic body.
Interestingly, the Mi Mix 2 is also rumoured to flaunt a fingerprint scanner underneath the display. The in-display fingerprint scanning technology was showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona earlier this year, and if everything goes as per the plan, the Mi Mix 2 could be the first smartphone to incorporate the in-display fingerprint scanning technology.
The benchmark listing, on the other hand, has confirmed that Mi Mix 2 will be powered by Qualcomm’s top of the line Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC coupled with Adreno 540 GPU for graphics. It also suggests that the Mi Mix 2 will run Android 7.1.1 operating system out-of-the-box. The device has also passed the mandatory 3C certification China, hinting at imminent launch.
