Xiaomi today expanded its portfolio with a whole new series. Since last few weeks, there have many rumours that Xiaomi has geared up to announce a new series. Putting an end to all the rumours and speculations, the company’s fist dual camera handset in India has made its way into the county with the all new Xiaomi Mi A1. Interestingly, the launch also witnessed Xiaomi’s debut of Android One, which is Google’s another attempt at Android One. Google previously introduced Android One lineup with select OEMs like Micromax, Spice, and Karbonn in India with an aim to create a low-cost, entry-level Android handsets for first-time buyers.

As mentioned at the Google I/O 2017 in May, Android One handsets run stock Android experience out of the box similar to the company’s Pixel and Nexus lineup. Since Xiaomi has partnered with Google to venture into Android One, the Mi A1 runs stock Android Nougat out of the box. It’s a big deal since Mi A1 is also the first ever Xiaomi phone to employ stock Android instead of custom MIUI skin. Xiaomi promises that the Mi A1 will receive the Android Oreo update before the end of 2017.

Coming back to what makes the Xiaomi A1 a new beginning for the company, it sports a 5.5-inch LTPS Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) display with 401 ppi pixel density. Powering the device is an octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 506 GPU for graphics. The phone carries 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD. The dual-SIM phone boasts of full metal unibody, measuring 7.3mm in thickness and weighing 165g.

Up front, there’s a 5MP secondary sensor for selfies and video calls. In terms of connectivity, the phone supports dual-band Wi-Fi, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2. It features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Available in multiple black, gold, and rose gold colour options, the Xiaomi Mi A1 comes at the price of Rs 14,999. The Xiaomi Mi A1 will go on sale on 12 September starting at noon on Mi.com, Flipkart.com and will also be available at mi Home stores.Launch offers include 200GB of additional 4G data for Airtel customers who buy the Mi A1.

Xiaomi’s decision to bake Andriod One onto the A1 is not a sign that the company is getting rid of MIUI, although it was mentioned during the launch presentation that the company plans to launch more Android One powered smartphones in the future.
