  3. Xiaomi Mi 7 to launch in 2018 with bezel-less display and dual cameras: Report

    • The Xiaomi Mi 7 might come with a bezel-less display manufactured by Samsung
    • It will still feature a fingerprint scanner unlike the iPhone X
    • May be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset

Xiaomi is expected to launch its next-generation flagship smartphone, the Mi 7, in the first half of 2018. As per a report which surfaced online on Thursday, the Mi 7 is expected to sport a bezel-less display along with a dual camera setup on the back. The device is expected to go up against devices like Google Pixel 2 and OnePlus 5T. Additionally, the Xiaomi Mi 6 never made it to India. Hopefully, the strategy will be different for Xiaomi Mi 7.

In a report by the Chinese website MyDrivers, the Xiaomi Mi 7 will sport a 6.01-inch OLED display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, the display will be made by Samsung. The Mi 6 features a 5.15-inch full-HD IPS display with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. As per the report, the Mi 7 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, which is also being reported to launch next month.

Smartphones like Apple iPhone X and OnePlus 5T both come with facial recognition technology for unlocking the device. Xiaomi is also said to be working on a similar technology, however, it may not make it to the Mi 7 as per rumours. The company will still be utilising the fingerprint sensor for unlocking it. I personally prefer the fingerprint technology over the facial recognition technology.

It has also been reported that the handset will come with a dual camera setup on the back with both the cameras sporting 16-megapixel sensors. With this setup, the company will be able to provide its customers with new modes like the portrait mode, enhanced bokeh effect and optical zoom.

In a previous leak, the Xiaomi Mi 7 was said to come with 6GB of RAM and a 3,350mAh battery. If the report is true, then this would be the third upcoming bezel-less smartphone from the company. The device is also reported to sport a glass back instead of a ceramic panel we got to see in the Mi 6 earlier this year.

The report by MyDrivers tells us that the company is planning to price the device at CNY 2,699 (Approximately Rs. 26,600). Interestingly, the Mi 6 was initially priced at CNY 2,499 (Approximately Rs. 23,600) for the 6GB RAM with 64 internal storage variant.
