Xiaomi’s new voice-activated AI smart speaker has been announced coinciding with the launch of Mi 5x smartphone and MIUI 9 software. By launching this new speaker, Xiaomi is aiming to take the competition further by boasting of an artificial intelligence. If you recall, the company first announced Mi Internet Speaker in China last year to take on the likes of Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Apple HomePod.

Xiaomi’s foray into smart speakers indicates the company’s long-term goal to continue its dominance in the market while keeping the price as low as possible. Xiaomi AI speaker comes at the cost of 299 yuan which converts at roughly Rs 2,890. Xiaomi AI speaker can be used to listen to music, set reminders, set alarms, find your phone, etc. It has a potential to turn into a good asset for children studying in school. The speaker can help with mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

It can also translate different languages, play the sound of animals, and read the encyclopaedia, etc. Interestingly, it can also open the curtains and start water heaters. The only catch is, those devices should be smart devices themselves, compatible with the speaker’s platform. Xiaomi lets users train the speaker so that they can set the questions and answers or offer some new unique abilities. As far as the audio quality is concerned, Xiaomi AI speaker is equipped with six microphones for 360 surround sound output.
