A few months ago, WhatsApp had added the Picture-in-Picture mode to smartphones. According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will now be bringing the feature to its Web version for desktop users. The report also mentions that this new update will also bring a new feature which will let users reply privately to a message received in a group. Recent report by the same source had hinted that WhatsApp would include a Restricted Groups feature, which would let group administrators restrict group members from sending messages in the group.
According to the report, the WhatsApp development team has submitted the version 0.2.7315 of the Web client for approval, which mainly includes these two new features. The Picture-in-Picture mode lets the users watch videos in a separate pop-up screen while continuing to chat. The pop-up consists of controls like play/pause, volume controls and timeline slider. In the desktop version, we might get to see the Picture-in-Picture video content in a new window.
Additionally, this update might also include a ‘Reply privately’ option, which reportedly would allow WhatsApp Web users to communicate with group members privately in context to a message sent to the group. This new option may be available besides the ‘Reply’ option. When opted for, it will quote the group message in the private chat. This is a completely new feature and isn’t yet available even on the mobile app for iOS and Android.
Currently, both the features aren’t available on WhatsApp Web, but will reportedly go live on the interface soon.
