WhatsApp might let devices running Android 8.0 Oreo set notification channels for the app. The notification channels feature allows users to customise multiple notifications as per their liking, even for the same app. With the help of this feature, users can customise how their notifications look, sound and vibrate on their smartphones. As per a report by AndroidPolice, WhatsApp seems to have rolled out support for this feature in its v2.18.18 beta of the application.
As per the report, the WhatsApp v2.18.18 beta features a total of 10 notification channels, which include – group notifications, message notifications, chat history, backup, critical app alerts, failure notifications, media playback, uncategorized, other notifications, sending media and silent notifications.
Each of these notification channels come with their own settings which are needed to be customised separately. However, this feature has still been kept in beta, meaning you will have to wait a little longer to receive the feature in the final version. Also, if you don’t have an Android 8.0 Oreo powered smartphone, you may not find these settings in the application even when it becomes public.
If you can’t wait and want to test out the feature for yourself, you can sign up to be a beta tester for the app in the Google Play Store. To do so, head to the Play Store and visit the WhatsApp page. There you will find a button to enroll for the beta testing of the app, click it and you are done. In some time you will get a notification that you have become a beta tester for the app. Now go ahead and download it.
