Xiaomi has buckled up to take the wraps off its new smartphone series in India today. The Chinese smartphone maker has been playing safe with the new series, providing just a scant detail that the upcoming smartphone would focus on selfies. The company will also launch its latest custom ROM MIUI 9 today at the event. The new Xiaomi smartphone series launch vent will start at 12 pm IST and will be broadcasted live on the Mi.com website.
Surprisingly rumours haven’t been buzzing around much this time about the new Xiaomi device. However, two ‘mysterious’ Xiaomi smartphones with the model number MEE7 and MET7 recently emerged on the Chinese certification website TENAA. Both the handset looked like two peas in a pod (quite similar) in terms of design and overall specifications. But interestingly one of the devices revealed dual camera up front and perhaps this might be that could get unveiled at the launch event today.
Talking about the MIUI 9, the custom ROM was officially introduced in July this year. The ninth iteration of the MIUI ROM is based on Android Nougat OS. The new MIUI version offers a bunch of improvements, new features including home screen editor, a new dynamic icon for apps and lot more.
The MIUI 9 brings shortcuts on lock screen, split screen feature, Smart app launcher that suggests apps to launch based on screen contents. Further, the launch time of apps in this new custom Android ROM will be increasingly faster with optimised haptic feedback. The latest MIUI skin has three new themes-No Boundary, Color Fantasy, Cool Black and a new default theme. The Smart Assistant meanwhile will enable users to search almost everything from apps, images, to notes and much more.
