Vodafone has announced the rollout of 4G VoLTE (Voice over Long-Term Evolution) services in select Indian cities next month. With this, Vodafone follows the footsteps of Jio and Airtel. VoLTE is a high-speed wireless communication standard based on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) to deliver high quality voice and high-speed data.
Vodafone’s initial VoLTE rollout phase covers cities and states like Mumbai, Gujarat, Delhi, Karnataka and Kolkata. However, Vodafone said they will expand to more circles shortly thereafter.
Vodafone SuperNet 4G customers shall benefit from Vodafone 4G VoLTE services so they can experience superior call quality and reliable data connectivity. Vodafone said their 4G customers will bear no additional expenses to leverage VoLTE. All that the users would need is a VoLTE-enabled smartphone.
“Vodafone is getting Future Ready with the advent of newer technologies and digital services. The introduction of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) will enhance customer experience with HD quality calling and offer our customers newer possibilities,” said Sunil Sood, MD and CEO at Vodafone India.
It remains to be seen how much of a positive impact this will have on the existing Vodafone prepaid and postpaid plans. We have reached out to Vodafone requesting a comment on this, and we’ll update the story once Vodafone responds to our request.
Jio recently unveiled two Happy New Year 2018 plans with some new data benefits followed by Airtel upgrading their Rs 199 plan with 1GB high-speed 4G data per day for 28 days. It remains to be seen how Vodafone plans cope with the competition next year. Expect a high
VoLTE voltage drama soon.
