Vivo showcased its fully bezel-less smartphone with an in-screen fingerprint scanner called Vivo APEX. Although at first it was touted as a concept phone at MWC 2018, Vivo has now decided to launch the smartphone for consumers in the market.
Vivo is yet to reveal price and availability details of Vivo APEX. And the device has only appeared in China. However, there is still hope for people all across the world who were waiting for the handset to become a reality. Vivo has confirmed Vivo APEX will start mass producing in mid-2018.
Some of the details like RAM, internal storage, battery capacity and rear camera configurations remain the secret. The only thing that the company has confirmed for now is that Vivo APEX is to be powered by Qualcomm’s most-recent top of the line Snapdragon 845 chip.
For all other specs, Vivo APEX sports a 5.99-inch OLED display with 98 percent screen to body ratio. To achieve such a high percentage of screen to body ratio, the company had to move both ambient/proximity sensors and speakers under the display.
Interestingly enough, a fingerprint reader is embedded into the bottom half of the display, unlike the Vivo X20 Plus UD, which also featured in-screen fingerprint reader but ended up offering it at only one spot of the display.
Last but not least, Vivo also disclosed Vivo APEX features an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies, which pops out of the top of the handset within 0.8 seconds and retracts back into the device when it’s no longer in use.
