Airtel announced a new partnership with Tata Teleservices in a press note last evening. Under this new partnership, all of Tata Teleservices customers will start transitioning to Airtel’s Mobile Network under an Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) arrangement. This new partnership has come up just a few months after the Vodafone and Idea Cellular merger, which threatened to take Airtel down from the position of number one cellular network provider in India.
In a bid to not over-stress Airtel’s network, this transition would be done in phases. The first Circles to transition would by UP (West), Bihar and West Bengal. Airtel also said in the press note that this transition would take a few weeks to get over. After it is done, all of Tata Teleservices customers across India will be utilising Airtel’s network even with their current SIM cards.
“We are delighted to welcome the Tata mobile customers on to India’s largest network and look forward to serving them with our world-class services. The transition will be fully seamless and nothing changes for Tata customers, who will continue on the same SIM and plan”,
said Ajai Puri, Chief Operating Officer, Bharti Airtel, said.
After the transition is successful, all the Tata Teleservices subscribers will get new recharge offers from Airtel, along with an option of continuing with their existing plans and benefits. Interestingly, Airtel and Tata Teleservices had recently announced a merger of their consumer mobile businesses. As of now, the merger is currently undergoing procedure set up by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India along with the Cellular Operators’ Association of India.
