Sony had announced a quartet of phones at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, which included the Sony Xperia XZs. Today, Sony India has announced that it will be bringing the phone to India, to be available from April 11, 2017 at Sony retail stores across the country for a retail price of Rs. 49,990. This is Sony’s maiden launch of the year and one that sets a new tone for the company.

The Sony Xperia XZs is running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 820 may not be the latest processor in the market, but up until a few months ago, it was the flagship from the company. The Xperia XZs comes in two variants, but company is only getting the 4G dual-SIM variant here. The phone also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology so that you can top up that 2900mAh battery at the earliest. The Xperia XZs comes with IP65/68 certification, however Sony makes it very clear that this protection only works if all the ports are properly sealed. The disclaimer also states that the phone should not be brought in contact with salt-water, chlorinated water (swimming pool alert) and “liquids such as drinks.” the Xperia XZ has a capless USB port to connect and charge. The USB port must be completely dry before charging.

The Sony Xpera XZs sports a 5.2-inch 2K display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The real highlight of the Xpera XZs, however, happens to be its camera. The smartphone uses the sensor Sony had announced back in February, the one capable of shooting full-HD videos at a whopping 1000fps. The sensor is also capable of capturing images in 19-megapixel resolution and is aided by a 25mm f/2.0 lens. The smartphone camera is equipped with Sony’s SteadyShot technology, which is a sensor based 5-axis image stabilization system. The front camera is a 13 megapixel shooter (also with SteadyShot) and has a 22mm lens with an aperture of f/2.0

Sony has launched the Xperia XZ just last year in September and while the Xperia XZs is by no means a replacement, it supplements the XZ line-up at an additional price point. the smartphone is available in three colour; Ice Blue, Warm Silver and Black. Sony has also said that anyone who pre-books the phone between 4th and 10th April will also get the SRS-XB10 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker worth Rs. 4,990 for free.
