Sony has started rolling Android 8.0 Oreo update for its premium flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. While the Japanese tech company earlier confirmed that the Xperia XZ Premium will receive Android Oreo update starting December, it has pushed the update a month ahead of the specified timeline.
The company in late August also revealed the list of Sony smartphones that will receive Google’s latest Android OS update that includes- Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, Xperia XZ, Xperia X Compact, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Ultra, Xperia Touch and Xperia XA1 Plus.
With the Android Oreo update, the Xperia XZ Premium will get a bunch of new features and improvements. The update brings improved sound quality, app shortcuts, snooze notification, picture-in-picture display. Sony has also included the 3D creator that was introduced with Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact. To recall the new Xperia XZ1 series was globally unveiled at IFA 2017 in Berlin. These two handsets come with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.

Sony in its official blog post said that with 3D creator it will “let you scan your face, head, food or any object, rendering it as a 3D avatar or free-form image in less than 60 seconds, and makes it easy to share on social media with friends or 3D print.”
Other features on the Xperia XZ Premium Android Oreo update include- Predictive capture, autofocus burst that will recognise, track and capture a sequence of moving objects to avoid blur cropping on the images.
Sony notes that the software update will be rolled out in a phased manner which means it will take time to reach out all Xperia XZ Premium units.
