Samsung Galaxy S9 flagship smartphone series has finally marked its presence in India. Both Galaxy S9 and S9+ first launched at MWC 2018 last week. Samsung Galaxy S9 price in India starts at Rs 57,900 and goes up to 65,900 whereas the Galaxy S9+ comes at the starting price of Rs 64,900 for the standard storage (64GB) version and goes up to Rs 72,900 for 256GB variant.

The key highlights of the new Galaxy S9 series are its improved imaging sensors that now come with variable apertures along with the ability to capture slow-mo at 960fps. Additionally, they now offer a second speaker which is tuned by AKG Acoustics and claimed to be 40% louder than their predecessors. They also feature Dolby Atmos effect that promises to deliver 360-degree surround sound.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ features & specifications

Both the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ bears similar design language as the Galaxy S8 family with minimal bezel edge-to-edge display. The Samsung Galaxy S9 sports a 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio meanwhile the Galaxy S9+ comes with a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED 18.5:9 front panel. The handsets are powered by Samsung’s in-house processor, Exynos 9810. The smartphones run Android Oreo with the company’s proprietary Experience 9.0 UI on top.

Both Galaxy S9 and S9+ have a variable aperture that configures itself automatically depending on the lighting condition. Samsung Galaxy S9 houses a single 12MP Dual Pixel sensor with OIS. Meanwhile, the S9+ gets a 12MP dual rear sensor and OIS. The wide-angle lens switches between the two aperture f/1.5 or f/2.4 while the telephoto lens has a static f/2.4 aperture.

Other changes include the placement of a fingerprint sensor which has now been positioned below the rear camera module. There is a new AR Emoji feature as well that converts your image to a 3D character and creates 18 GIFs automatically once you save it. Further, the devices come with Intelligent Scan that uses Iris scanning and facial recognition to authenticate payments via Samsung Pay.

As for the RAM/storage, the Galaxy S9 carries 4GB RAM paired with either 64GB storage or 256GB internal storage. While the Galaxy S9 packs 6GB of RAM coupled with 64GB/256GB native storage. The storage can be further expanded up to 400GB via microSD card.

The Galaxy S9 is backed by a 3000mAh battery while the Galaxy S9+ comes with a bigger 3500mAh battery. A USB Type-C port is drilled at the base and thankfully Samsung hasn’t ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack. Both the models are IP68 water & dust resistant.

Samsung has partnered with Airtel and Jio over “carrier aggregation technology,” something that claims 2.5x faster 4G connectivity on Samsung Galaxy S9.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 standard 4GB RAM/64GB storage version is launched at Rs 57,900 while the Galaxy S9+ 6GB RAM/64GB storage will come at the cost of Rs 64,900. The smartphones will be available for purchase starting March 16 via both offline and online stores. The handsets will come in three colour shades- Lilac Purple, Coral Blue and the Midnight Black

Launch offers

Samsung has introduced Samsung Rewards Program via Samsung Pay. Prospective buyers will get Rs 6000 Paytm Mall cash back via both online and offline channels. Customers can also avail a cashback of Rs 6000 upon making the purchase using HDFC debit and credit cards. Customers can also claim up to additional Rs 6000 exchange bonus upon trading an old Samsung phone.

In addition, Samsung has partnered with Airtel to offer Rs 9900 down payment and postpaid tariff of  Rs 2499 for 24 months on Airtel and data benefits. On Reliance Jio network, if you make a one-time payment of Rs 4999, you can avail 1TB data for a year. For  Vodafone subscribers, the company is offering  12 months Netflix subscription for free.
