Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8 users have started to get a new update which lets the owners of these smartphones disable the dedicated Bixby button. This update will help users who keep on accidentally launching the digital assistant. This, when done, will completely disable the Bixby button, however, you can’t reprogram it to perform any other function. Samsung Bixby was launched with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus back in March. It is a digital assistant offered by the company similar to Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant.
The company also added a separate hardware button to launch the digital assistant so that it is much easier for the users to adopt. However, after its initial launch, the digital assistant ran into some problems and the company delayed the roll-out. The company in the last month only rolled out the feature to over 200 countries, and it is expected to land in India in the coming few weeks.
Sammobile reported that this new update to disable the dedicated Bixby button will be rolled out slowly to eligible devices. Currently, it is only being rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy Note 8. Though this feature is a bit helpful, we would have liked an update which would let us remap the dedicated button to perform other tasks like launching apps. We would also like to see that when Samsung’s digital Assistant fully rolls out, will Samsung disable Google Assistant completely or will be providing an option to the users.
