Samsung might be working on an Active version of its flagship, the Galaxy S8. Today, on the Android Central Forum, A user Dominique Henderson in a thread claimed that he has a Galaxy S8 Active in his possession. In the thread, he also went ahead and posted both a hands-on video and images of the device. However, the video has now been removed and cannot be seen. The new Galaxy S8 Active looks extremely similar to the Galaxy S8 without the curved edges and the glass back. However, it retains the 18:5:9 aspect ratio. In the thread, Henderson claimed that the screen is shielded by a polycarbonate layer like the Galaxy S7 Active which was launched in the previous year. He also claimed that the device will feature a metal frame with polymer bumpers on the corners for protection. As it can be seen in the images the bezels on the device are also extremely thick for the protection of the screen.
An image in the leak also showcased the battery capacity of the alleged Galaxy S8 Active. As per the image, it will come with a 4,000mAh which will be an upgrade over the 3,000mAh battery that powers the Galaxy S8. However, it needs to be kept in mind that the last year’s Galaxy S7 Active also featured a 4,000mAh battery. The user also mentioned that the Galaxy S8 Active does not come with many features that were present in the previous Active devices that Samsung launched. Like the Aqua Mode which let the users shoot under water footage has been removed from the camera.
Surprisingly, Samsung has removed the Active Key in favour of the Bixby button in the Galaxy S8 Active. It seems as if Samsung is pushing hard on its digital assistant to be available to each and every person. However, this might be a pre-production unit and Samsung might decide to make changes and then introduce the smartphone to the world.
