Samsung has started to push out the beta version of Android 8.0 Oreo to its Galaxy S8 and S8+ users. The company has also confirmed that its previous year’s flagships, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will also be receiving the update. Today, a report has come up which states that the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will also get a taste of Oreo.
A Reddit user by the name of CyberConCoder made a post on Reddit stating that he has got confirmation from a total of four different Samsung chat representatives. Though support centre chats aren’t always correct, the number of the chats might make it seem like a reliable intel.
As you can see in the screenshots above, all the representatives seem to have give similar information. All of them have confirmed that Samsung will be pushing out the Oreo update, however, none of them gives an estimate as to when the update will arrive. Interestingly, one of the support representatives also mentions that his supervisor had confirmed the information.
If this report turns out to be true, and the company ends up supporting all the three generations, it would be a first for the Android smartphone manufacturer. Recently, Xiaomi announced that it will be updating all of its smartphones from 2012 till 2017 to the latest MIUI 9 ROM.
If other manufacturers follow Xiaomi and Samsung, we may get to see the lifetime of smartphones get extended. However, we weren’t able to confirm whether or not this report was true, but let’s hope it is. It is always good if a top-tier brand sets such good precedents for the rest to emulate.
