After endless rumours, leaked images hovering around the internet, Samsung’s Galaxy A8 (2018) series is now official. Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) for its home market.

Like the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8 family, the new premium mid-range phones boast Infinity display with 18:9 aspect ratio. However, the key highlight of the all-new Galaxy A8 series smartphones is their dual camera setup up front capable of taking portrait shots. The smartphones incorporate a combination of 16MP+8MP sensors with f/1.9 aperture. The dual front-facing cameras have Live Focus that adds a bokeh effect to the selfies keeping the foreground under focus.

With the dual front camera array, it makes the Galaxy A8 (2018) and the Galaxy A8+ (2018) among the first from Samsung’s smartphone inventory to carry dual front lenses. On the rear side, the devices offer single camera lens of 16MP with f/1.7 aperture. The camera on the Galaxy A8(2018) series has digital image stabilisation paired with a hyper-lapse feature that will allow users to shoot time-lapse videos. The fingerprint sensor is placed below the rear camera.

Coming to the innards, both the devices are powered by an octa-core processor paired with either 4GB RAM/32GB storage or 4GB RAM/64GB storage. The storage can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. The Galaxy A8(2018) packs a battery capacity of 3000mAh while the Galaxy A8+(2018) comes with a slightly bigger 3500mAh battery. Both the handsets ship with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.

Talking about the display, the Galaxy A8 (2018) features a 5.6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with 2220×1080 pixel resolution. The Galaxy A8+(2018) meanwhile sports a big 6.0-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display. Both the smartphones have IP68 rated water and dust resistance and come with Samsung Pay support. The handsets have Always on Display and include- 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5, NFC, USB-Type C port and fast charging support under its connectivity options.

The Galaxy A8(2018) and Galaxy A8+(2018) has been launched in four colour schemes- Black, Orchid Grey, Gold and Blue. Samsung is yet to announce when the new Galaxy A8 series will hit the stores in India and at what price.
