Samsung today launched the Samsung SM-G9298 the successor to the W2017 flip phone which the company launched previous year in China. The phone has been named in Chinese which translates to Leader 8 or Leadership 8. The company has made the device available in the Black colour. Interestingly the Samsung G-9298 comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 SoC. We contacted Samsung and they said that “Currently there are no plans to introduce this device anywhere in the world except for China”. However, we feel that if the company sees enough demand worldwide they might change their plans.
The Samsung SM-G9298 comes with two 4.2-inch Full HD Super AMOLED displays. One display will be inside the flip phone and the other one will be on the outside. The phone comes with a dual hybrid SIM card slot and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC. The phone comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of Internal Storage expandable via a microSD card up to 256GB.
As for the camera, the device features a 12-megapixel primary camera along with a f/1.7 aperture. On the front, the device features a 5-megapixel camera with a f/1.9 aperture. The device includes 4G VoLTE support, micro USB 2.0, Bluetooth v4.1, NFC, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, and GPS. All of this is backed by a 2,300mAh battery which the company claims has a standby time of 68 hours. Samsung also offers Samsung Pay, S Voice, and Secure Folder features on the device.
The company has not revealed when the phone will be available or at what price will it be sold at. Currently, we only know that this device will be only sold in China. Interestingly, company’s like Samsung, LG, Casio amongst others have started to manufacture smart flip phones in recent times.
