Samsung announces powerful Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Book 2-in-1 at MWC 2017

Unexpectedly Samsung also announced a Surface Pro rival the Galaxy Book tablet-cum-PC at the event.

As expected, Samsung at its pre-MWC event in Barcelona unveiled a tablet device – the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. But then there was a surprise for everyone and the company alongside unveiled a Microsoft Surface Pro rival the Samsung Galaxy Book 2-in-1, which company claims can perform high-power tasks like a PC.

First up, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 design appear much like a bigger version of the Galaxy Note 4 with a stylus ‘S-Pen’. The improved S-Pen gets greater pressure sensitivity and will be included in the retail box. However the additionally keyboard accessory that can be bought separately.

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 features a 9.7-inch (2048×1536 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 264ppi and boats of HDR video capabilities. It has four surround sound speakers that auto-rotate, says Samsun, which means these can understand the tablet orientation and output direction of the sound. Samsung has put in blue-light filter as well.

The Galaxy Tab S3 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM. The 32GB internal storage is expandable via microSD card up to additional 256GB. It packs a 6000mAh battery and company claims that it can easily last 12 hours of video playback. The tablet device measures at 237.3 x 169 x 6mm and weighs 429 grams.

Talking about the Samsung Galaxy Book 2-in-1, the device come with a S-Pen and Keyboard. The tablet-cum-PC comes in two different screen size variants – 10.6-inch (1920×1280 pixels) and 12-inch FHD+ (2160×1440 pixels) AMOLED display.


Inside the Galaxy Book is powered by a 7th Gen Core i5 7200U processo, 4GB or 8 GB of RAM and a 128GB or 256GB SSD. The Book runs on Windows 10 and interestingly the S-Pen works with Windows 10.

The Samsung Galaxy Book weighs 754grams without the keyboard. The tablet device is 7.4mm thin, which is thinnest in its class. The Galaxy Book packs a 39W battery that is claimed to have a 10.5 hours backup and supports fast charging. The device has two USB Type -C ports.

Samsung will ship the S-Pen and Keyboard in the Galaxy Book retail box, but the Tab S3 only gets S-Pen in the box. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 comes in silver and black colour options. Pricing and availability of both Samsung devices isn’t available as of now.
