  3. ‘All-rounder’ Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 launching in India on 14th Feb, hints official website code

As we all know, Xiaomi India is gearing up to take the wraps off their 2018’s first smartphone under some Redmi 5 series this Valentine’s day. Xiaomi has rolled out media invites to an event scheduled next week in New Delhi. While it was believed to be the Redmi 5, Techook has reliably learnt from a source close to Xiaomi that they may announce the Redmi Note 5 on February 14, followed by another phone announcement shortly thereafter, but not necessarily on 14th itself.

Xiaomi India initially hosted an event page on their official website with a countdown timer. To verify the claims made by our source, I dug deeper into the page code of the official event page on their website, using a web browser’s inspect element feature.

Within a few minutes, I managed to locate some interesting clues and traces that more or less confirm our source’s claim about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 launch next week. I discovered a couple of mentions about ‘redminote5’ at two different places. See the screenshot below:

Then I got in touch with someone familiar with JavaScript to make sense of the code and be doubly sure. He confirmed the existence of a subdirectory titled ‘redminote5’ on the event page. This subdirectory previously contained an image titled ‘day1.png,’ which is now deleted from the server. But I had managed to grab a screenshot of the same before it was gone. Note the highlighted part of the URL of the image below:

We also noticed within the code itself that Xiaomi is planning to market this handset as an ‘allrounder,’ and that rang a bell right away. If you recall, the Redmi Note 4 was announced on Flipkart last year at the hands of Indian cricket all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja. Along with that, there was an overload of “allrounder” tags on social media pointing to the Redmi Note 4, a part of their elaborate marketing campaign. We would be surprised if this new Xiaomi all-rounder is anything other than the Redmi Note 5, this time around.

Yes, this may seem like a crazy treasure hunt for now (without an actual payoff) but all hints point towards the Redmi Note 5 making its long awaited appearance this Valentine’s Day. So let’s gear up for the new all-rounder.
