Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio unveiled its first 4G VoLTE feature phone, the JioPhone last week. While the company outed only a few features of the phone, it hasn’t listed the complete specifications sheet at the event neither on its website. However, the chipmaker Qualcomm on Saturday, July 22 did share an important aspect on the hardware front, the processor of this new 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone.
The company had confirmed that the JioPhone will be powered by Snapdragon 205 mobile platform, which is a 1.1GHz dual-core processor. The mobile platform feature Snapdragon X5 LTE modem and support LTE Category 4 with a download speed of 150Mbps and peak upload speed of 50Mbps.

While Qualcomm did confirm the integration of its latest mobile platform on the Jio 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone, another semiconductor company Spreadtrum Communication have also announced their partnership with Jio for the JioPhone. This has built up some confusion regarding which SoC the JioPhone will actually carry it.
“Making India digital with #JioPhone. @Spreadtrum is proud to be a part of the digital freedom for #featurephone users. @Reliancejio,” Spreadtrum wrote in its Twitter handle. The company didn’t mention which processor it will integrate, but given two chip makers have cited about the SoC on the phone, some of the JioPhone units might either come with Spreadtrum SoCs while rest could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 205 processor.
Notably, Lava 4G Connect M1 which was launched as the first 4G VoLTE feature phone in India is powered by a quad-core Spreadtrum SP9820A processor.
