Reliance JioPhone booking reached 6 million registrations within a day of opening the pre-booking process, The Indian Express has learnt. Reliance JioPhone booking officially commenced on August 24 via both online and offline channels. However, soon after pre-orders began, Reliance Industries suspended the process due to massive demand. As a result, one can only register their interest at this point, and when will Reliance JioPhone 4G VoLTE feature phone booking start once again remains to be seen.
Furthermore, Reliance JioPhone has reportedly received about 10 million expressions of interest from all across the country. However, various publications are reporting that Reliance Jio will start delivering JioPhone during Navratri festival in September. The company has promised to keep users posted as soon as pre-booking resumes. Mukesh-Ambani led Reliance Jio first announced the JioPhone during the company’s AGM in Mumbai on July 21. The beta testing took place on August 15 whereas the pre-booking started on August 24, as expected.
Those looking to buy the Reliance JioPhone will first need to pre-book the device, and there are some ways to do so. One can book the device by visiting any Jio retailer or multi-brand retailers including the Reliance Digital stores network. The feature phone comes at an effective price of Rs 0. Customers have to pay Rs 1,500 security deposit, which is refundable after three years upon returning the device.
Specs-wise, the Reliance JioPhone has a 2.4-inch QVGA (320 x 240) display. It runs Kai OS and offers a single Nano SIM slot. It comes in a single black colour option and packs a 1.2GHz dual-core Spreadtrum SoC and Mali-400 GPU for graphics running under the hood. It offers 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB with the help of microSD.
