Reliance Jio is set to go the paid service route on April 1, giving existing users an opportunity to sign up for Jio Prime, a memership that brings great monthly benefits. The deadline to sign up was March 31, but it seems that the telco has had some trouble getting people to cough up the initial Rs. 99 fee. In light of that, it seems like the company is readying to extend the deadline to sign up for Jio Prime by another month, but only for existing customers.
The report comes from TeleAnanlysis, which quotes source familiar with the matter claiming that the operator may extend the deadline to subscribe to the Prime membership by another month due to lukewarm response from its customers, though a final decision is yet to be taken. The report further added that Jio has been able to accumulate around 22-27 million users as its Prime members out of its 100 million subscribers. Clearly, only 50 percent of its target for Prime membership subscription have been achieved so far. However, the mobile network company has not shared a word on this report yet. The Jio Happy New Year offer will be ending on March 31.
To recap, the Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio announced the new Jio Prime membership plan last month. The announcement came after the Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director addressed to have achieved the target of 100 million subscribers mark. The Prime Membership which is meant for the 100 million Reliance Jio customers allows them to pay a one-time fee of Rs. 99 and Rs. 303 per month to enjoy another year of its free 4G services. The Rs. 303 Jio plan includes free unlimited calls and 1GB of free data per day with a validity of 28 days.
