Telecom network operator Vodafone launched a new plan to compete with Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio. The plan costs Rs 509 for both, new as well as existing users. As part of the plan, Vodafone prepaid users benefit from 1GB of 4G data daily. Additionally, customers also take advantage of 100 free SMS per day and unlimited calls (local, STD and national roaming). Vodafone Rs 509 has a validity of 84 days.
Reliance Jio, on the other hand, has a similar Rs 459 plan for prepaid customers. As part of Rs 459 plan, Jio offers unlimited calls (local/STD/roaming to all operators). It offers unlimited 4G data with 1GB FUP per day. Since the plan remains valid for 84 days, customers end up with 84GB high-speed (4G) data. Upon exceeding the limit, speed will come down to 64kbps though. Jio Rs 459 plan also offers unlimited SMS in addition to access to other premium Jio apps and services.
Meanwhile, Airtel Rs 509 plan offers benefits similar to Jio Rs 459 and Vodafone Rs 509 plans. It offers unlimited local, STD and roaming outgoing calls for 84 days. Customers opting for this plan also receive 100 SMS per day and 1GB 3G/4G data.
From the above comparison, it’s pretty clear that Jio Rs 459 wins hands down as far as price and benefits are concerned. So, both Airtel and Vodafone still have some way to go to catch up with Jio despite successfully attracting customers by offering these benefits. The 509 plans from Airtel and Vodafone are competitive and probably enough to retain their respective customers but may need a little extra to make Jio customers jump ship.
Vodafone recently announced ‘Red Together’ plans to let postpaid users save up to 20% on the total rental of the group. Customers can also avail up to 20GB additional data.
