After Jio announced their revised prepaid plans on the eve of India’s Republic Day, some of the newer plans literally trespassed into the territory of Jio’s higher denomination plans. Thus, we were left wondering what would happen to those plans. Would they be discontinued or would they offer something extra? That question has now been answered.
One of the plans in question was the Jio Rs 299 plan. It offered a total of 56GB high-speed data in 28 days with 2GB per day limit till yesterday. The updated Jio Rs 198 plan now offers exactly the same amount of data for the same duration. Understandably, the Rs 299 plan has now been upgraded too and offers 84GB high-speed data in 28 days with a 3GB daily data limit. Other benefits like unlimited local, STD, roaming calls and 100 SMS per day remain the same.
With the Rs 299 plan now offering what the Rs 509 plan used to offer, it was only logical that the latter got a boost too. And that is exactly what has happened. Jio Rs 509 plan now offers 112GB high-speed data in 28 days with a 4GB daily limit. Needless to say, the calling and messaging benefits remain the same as in case of the Rs 299 plan.
The Jio Rs 799 plan has been left untouched for now and it continues to offer 140GB data with a cap of 5GB per day along with other benefits. The plan has no competition yet from other service providers. So it can afford to stay put.
These new revisions are bound to give the competition a serious headache. The Airtel plan that offers benefits similar to Jio’s Rs 299 plan is priced way higher at Rs 549 and Vodafone doesn’t even have one that offers 3GB data per day. Expect some serious overhaul in Airtel and Vodafone plans shortly. Till then, Happy Republic Day.
