Reliance Jio is trying to get into a retail partnership with Xiaomi similar to its partnership with Apple as per a recent report by Economic Times. As per the report, Reliance Jio is looking to sell Xiaomi branded televisions and smartphones in their retail network and chain of Reliance Digital Stores.
The report also states that the company is planning to sell Xiaomi’s B2B products like the smart point of sale (POS) devices to Reliance Jio retailers which will help them in digitizing the supply and retail chains. If this alleged deal goes through, it will help Xiaomi bring in more and more new devices to the country, without the worry of having to sell them on their own.
“Senior executives at Xiaomi India and Reliance Jio have met several times in the last few weeks,” one of the executives told ET. The executive adds that the partnership will start with smart B2B point-of-sales devices where Reliance Jio will place an order for around 1 million units. Both the companies will then expand the partnership to include consumer devices like televisions and smartphones.
Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi India’s Managing Director had previously indicated that the company plans to launch its range of smart televisions in the country pretty soon. And if we are to believe the report, alongside the rumoured Jio TV and broadband services, Reliance could bundle and launch the Xiaomi smart TVs at a disruptive price.
