Xiaomi’s budget-friendly Redmi Y-series smartphones will be available for purchase from today. The all-new selfie-centric Redmi Y1 and the watered down Redmi Y1 Lite will be up for sale from 12 PM today via e-commerce platform Amazon India and Xiaomi’s official website Mi.com
While Xiaomi brought these handsets with a new name tag, the Redmi Y1 Lite is actually a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 5A that was unveiled in China last month.
Talking about the price, Redmi Y1 3GB RAM/32GB storage version comes for a price of Rs. 8,999, while the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant carries a price tag of Rs. 10,999. The Y1 Lite, on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 6,999.
In terms of specifications, both variants of the Redmi Y1 feature a 5.5-inch HD (1280×720 pixel resolution) display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. They are powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 435 SoC and have a dedicated microSD slot. The selfie-focused Redmi Y1 features a 16MP front-facing camera along with a dedicated front LED flash module.
The camera sensor has a “Pixel binning” technology that is meant to reduce noise and improve pictures captured in low light. The front camera comes with f/2.0 aperture and has 76.4-degree wide angle lens. It has a face recognition feature as well. At the back, it has a 13-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and LED flash. The rear camera comes with real-time, burst mode, panorama and HDR modes.

The entry-level Redmi Y1 Lite features a 5.5-inch HD display with 720×1280 resolution. It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage. Internal storage can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. The phone carries a 13MP rear camera with PDAF support and a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies. Unlike the Y1, the Redmi Y Lite doesn’t feature a fingerprint scanner. Both the handsets pack a battery backup of 3080mAh that promises up to 10 days standby time.
The Redmi Y-series bundles a few exciting offers that include- 280GB of 4G data on Idea network. The offer is available for new Idea prepaid subscribers. Consumers can also get free one-year Hungama Music subscription. The offer, however, is limited to first five lakh combined buyers of all Xiaomi devices. Mi and Redmi users can also get a free 3-month subscription to Hungama Play. Besides the new Redmi Y-series, the free Hungama Music subscription is also available on the smartphones like Mi MIX 2, Mi Max 2, Redmi Note 4 among others.
