EyeLock Inc. recently confirmed that it will demonstrate its iris biometric solution running on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform at the world’s biggest mobile trade show. The iris-biometric solution is being stationed on a X16 LTE smartphone, using a Snapdragon 835 processor and Secure Camera; a camera-based biometric solution for iris and facial recognition.
Sy Choudhury, the senior director of product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. on this development said, “By 2018, most new smartphones released in the world will include biometrics. The Qualcomm 835 Haven Secure Camera feature provides additional security for your most personal information; your biometric iris template, the key to all your data, with specialized hardware and software. Further, we believe the Snapdragon 835 security camera implementation provides a solid foundation for the EyeLock solution.” The chipset manufacturer said that smartphone developers are increasingly adopting iris recognition as the gold-standard among biometric solutions because of its rich information density.
EyeLock, the iris-based identity management technology meanwhile said that its iris authentication technology has examined more than 240 unique iris characteristics of each eye. Notably the algorithm performance capabilities for speed and accuracy have been tested and validated by Novetta, with a false accept rate of 1 in 1.5 million for single eye authentication and a false reject rate of less than 1%, the company claimed. “EyeLock and Qualcomm Technologies worked together to achieve a breakthrough level of device security and biometric usability for smartphones and the IoT segment-at-large,” said Jeff Carter, Chief Technology Officer at EyeLock. “The device we will demonstrate at Mobile World Congress features fast iris recognition at a comfortable arm’s-length distance. Utilizing the Qualcomm Haven Secure Camera interface with dedicated processing and encryption to sign, store and execute matching of mathematical templates of your iris biometric, we now are able to offer one of the most advanced security techniques available.”
With the confirmation following up, the news adds substance to the previous leaked reports that cited integration of the iris scanner on Samsung’s upcoming flagship Galaxy S8. As the tech giants are mulling over the iris scanning and facial recognition on their upcoming devices, the collaboration of EyeLock with Qualcomm might deliver comprehensive development on the smartphone’s security in the near future.
