Oppo has launched yet another selfie-centric smartphone called the A83 in India. With this offering, the Chinese OEM claims to deliver natural selfie experience to the youth, courtesy of their ‘AI Beauty Recognition Technology’. Oppo A83 goes on sale via both online and offline channels starting January 20. It costs Rs 13,990 and comes in gold and black colour options.
Oppo said that they received a massive response from customers as far as their Selfie Expert ‘A’ Series and ‘F’ Series smartphone line-ups are concerned. With the Oppo A83, the company’s focus apparently remains more on offering affordable selfie experience, minimum-bezel display and AI Beauty technology.
Talking of which, Oppo A83 houses an 8-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and 13-megapixel main camera on the back. The company’s AI technology is expected to come into the picture with its facial recognition capabilities.
Design-wise, Oppo A83 is 7.7mm in thickness and weighs 143g. The handset is made up of an aluminium body with glass on the front. It sports a 5.7-inch HD+ screen with 1,440 x 720 pixels (18:9 aspect ratio), resulting in a modest 282ppi pixel density. The dual-SIM smartphone runs Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box with ColorOS 3.2 on top.
Internally, the handset is powered by a MediaTek MT6763T Helio P23 octa-core SoC, Mali-G71 GPU and 4GB RAM. It has 32GB internal storage expandable further by 256GB using a microSD card. Although it is equipped with Face Unlock feature, it lacks a fingerprint scanner to our surprise. The phone packs a 3,180mAh battery.
It arrives into a crowded segment and will face stiff competition from the likes of Moto G5S Plus, Xiaomi Mi A1 and the Huawei twins – Honor 9 Lite and Honor 7X, all flaunting dual cameras at the back.
