Oppo has launched the A71 3GB variant in India. The USP of the device is its AI Beautification feature for the camera. With the help of this feature, the device is able to capture more than 200 different facial features like skin texture, age, sex and more.
It will be made available in India via Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal at the price of Rs 9,990 in Black and Gold colour variants. The price does look competitive, but when we inspect the specifications closely, the competition starts looking much better.
The Oppo A71 sports a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz coupled with the Adreno 506 GPU. It features 3GB of RAM along with 16GB of internal storage expandable up to 256GB via microSD card. All of this is backed by a 3,000mAh non-removable battery and runs Google’s Android 7.1 Nougat operating system with Oppo’s own ColorOS 3.2 custom skin on top.
As for the camera, the A71 (3GB) features a 13-megapixel primary camera with an aperture of f/2.2 paired with an LED flash. On the front, it features a 5-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/2.4 for selfies. For connectivity options, the device supports 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS.
Now let’s take a look at the competition. The year old Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 which currently costs Rs 9,999, offers the same amount of RAM but you get a Full HD display instead of a 720p display, that too a bigger one. Add to that a better processor (Snapdragon 625), 32GB of internal storage compared to 16GB and a bigger battery (4000 mAh). Let’s not forget it has a fingerprint scanner too that is notably absent in the new Oppo A71.
You can also opt for devices like the 10.or G, Moto G5, Coolpad Cool 1 or even the Asus Zenfone 3 Max. All of these smartphones are better than the Oppo A71 in terms of specs and are available in the same price bracket. Guess it’s time for Oppo to think beyond selfies.
