OnePlus 5 receives OxygenOS 4.5.10 update, company announces Student Discount Program

OnePlus continues to refine the user experience for those who own the OnePlus 5, and now, the smartphone’s operating system is being updated to OxygenOS 4.5.10. This is the ninth update to the OnePlus 5 operating system in a span of 68 days, given that the phone was launched on June 22 and our review unit was loaded with Oxygen 4.5.0 at the time. Since then, OnePlus has been busy fixing a number of issues with their phone, as witnessed by the fact that 9 updates to the OS have already been released, mostly to fix issues.

The changelog of the current update is listed below. Of particular interest should be the camera improvements in terms of better noise and texture while shooting 1080p video at 60fps and general stability fixes. It is a shame that OnePlus still has not enabled RAW capture from the secondary sensor as we noted in our earlier article. OnePlus has also improved the Jio calling functionality. You can go through the entire changelog below to see if there is any of the updates you have wanted for are a part of this OTA.

Camera:

  • Photo noise reduction
  • Improved Camera stability
  • 60 fps video noise and texture improvements

Launcher:

  • Added country information of photographers in Shot on OnePlus

Phone:

  • Fixed accidental touches after hanging up
  • Improved Jio call functionality
  • Fixed display issue on calling screen

System:

  • Improved WiFi stability
  • Fixed clarity issue of videos taken by SnapShot app
  • Fixed display issue of new font
  • Fixed scrolling issue of Play Music

Along with rolling out an OTA update, the company has also rolled out a Student Discount program. Under the new scheme, students will be eligible for a 10 percent discount on the OnePlus 5. OnePlus mentioned in their blog post in the community forum that students were their most loyal fans, so as a gesture, the company would be offering them some concession. There are a few terms and conditions of importance, but we’re not going to waste your time with those as the student discount program is not available in India. For now, it is limited to UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Poland, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, USA, Canada. India has not made the cut despite the massive fanfare the company’s smartphones have received here.
