While OnePlus is gearing to launch its flagship today very little has remained to be known about the OnePlus 5 smartphone. Few aspects are confirmed by the company and the rest are spilled by notable leakers and tech publications. As per these reports here’s what we have come to know so far-
OnePlus has already confirmed that the new OnePlus 5 will be powered by the Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 835 SoC (system-on-chip). The company has also mentioned its collaboration with DxO, focusing on the imaging quality of the new device. The smartphone will feature horizontal stacked dual rear camera. Adding more information, The Verge has confirmed that the OnePlus 5 will feature a 16-mepgapixel Sony lens with f/1.7 aperture and the second camera will have a 20-megapixel Sony sensor (telephoto lens) with f/2.6 aperture. The report notes that OnePlus opted for a standard and telephoto lens, similar to the one used by Apple in their premium smartphone iPhone 7 Plus.
“We were exploring dual cameras last year, but we knew the education cost would be too high,” Lau explains to the publication. He further quoted, “We have to thank Apple for educating the market for us.”
Coming to the leaks, reports have suggested that the OnePlus 5 will sport a 5.5-inch full HD (1080×1920 pixels) display with a range of DCI-P3 colour accuracy. The phone is expected to come in two variants- 6GB RAM+64GB storage and a whopping 8GB RAM+128GB storage option. The OnePlus 5 is said to pack a 3300mAh battery and come with Bluetooth 5.0 support. As for the software, the upcoming flagship is said to run Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
Talking about the design, OnePlus has already shared a teaser revealing how the device will look like. Given the image, the new handset appears to follow design language of Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus with horizontal dual cameras placed at the top left corner. ‘Muted’ antenna lines could be seen running top and bottom of the back panel following the ‘curvature’. OnePlus has claimed that the new device will be the ‘slimmest flagship smartphone’ from the company and confirmed that it will have a fingerprint sensor at the front. The phone is tipped to be crafted with aluminum similar to the previous OnePlus models.
As for the pricing, notable gadget leakster, Evan Blass has shared the pricing on Venture Beat. According to him, pricing of the new OnePlus 5 will vary depending on the ‘configuration’. The report puts the pricing the of the smartphone between $479 (roughly Rs. 30,900) and $539 (roughly Rs. 35,000). The report from the leakster comes in line with previous rumours that have suggested that the 6GB RAM variant will cost Rs. 32,999 and 8GB RAM variant will carry a price of Rs. 34,000.
OnePlus is widely known for bringing high-end spec smartphone but with no so expensive price tag. While reports have claimed that the upcoming flagship smartphone will probably be the costlier handset from the company’s portfolio we will have to wait and see until it makes an official announcement for the pricing.
