Google officially announced this year’s version of Android OS in March. And while we are inching closer to the release of the new Android O, Pete Lau, OnePlus CEO has confirmed that its current smartphones OnePlus 3 and 3T will receive the latest Android OS.
Pete took to his personal Twitter account to make the announcement. “A lot of you have been asking, so I’m proud to say Android O will come to OnePlus 3 and 3T,” Pete Lau’s tweet reads.

However, the CEO didn’t mention any time frame for the update, but one can assume that Android O for OnePlus 3 and 3T will be released after Google makes the next major Android release available for OEMs. Android O is currently in beta stage.
A few days ago, OnePlus has announced that it will cease the production of OnePlus 3T and it will be discontinued globally. But the company did assure that it will continue to bring software updates and support for OnePlus 3 and 3T. Notably, the current flagship, OnePlus 3T will continue to sell in India until later this year.
While OnePlus is bringing special treatment for the OnePlus 3 and 3T users, there is no mention as to whether OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X devices will also get updated. Both these devices were launched in 2015. Even though the original OnePlus One was updated from Android 4.4 KitKat to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the previous flagship OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X are still ‘stuck’ on Android Marshmallow.
The Chinese conglomerate is putting all its efforts on the next big flagship launch for this year. The OnePlus 5 is expected to be unveiled later this summer. OnePlus has officially confirmed that the new flagship model will be powered by Qualcomm’s next generation Snapdragon 835 processor, will sport a front-facing fingerprint sensor. The company has also collaborated with DXO to offer better imaging experience.
