Earlier this month, OnePlus CEO had confirmed that its current models OnePlus 3 and 3T will receive the latest Android O. The company at that time didn’t shared any detail on whether the two-generation old, OnePlus 2 will get any update or not.

However, OnePlus has now confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will never receive an official update to Nougat. OnePlus 2 which was announced in July 2015, came pre-loaded with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The device was later updated to Android 6.0 in mid of 2016. While the company in the past promised to update its phones for at least 24 months after release, OnePlus 2 has been wrapped up in 22 months.

In an interview with Android Authority, OnePlus confirmed that it will never push out an official Android Nougat update to the OnePlus 2. When asked about the reason, OnePlus told Android Authority that,” when we built the OnePlus 2 we didn’t have the software infrastructure team in place we do now.”

The company further told the publication that “customer service has been telling customers this for a little while” and that “we’re happy about what we’re doing with software. We already confirmed Android O will come for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. So [no Nougat for the OnePlus 2] isn’t new and we think people were aware of it.”

Since OnePlus 2 is ‘well within its life-time’ to get Android Nougat, this would rather be disappointing for OnePlus 2 users who have been expecting to receive an official Android 7.0 Nougat update.

As mentioned above, OnePlus 3 and 3T are confirmed to receive this year’s version of Android OS. OnePlus didn’t mention any specific time frame for the update, but one can assume that latest Android version will be released after Google makes the Android O available for smartphone makers. Android O is currently in beta stage.

Besides this the Chinese conglomerate is gearing up to unwrap its flagship for the year, OnePlus 5 next week. The upcoming flagship will be unveiled globally on June 20, while the India launch is set for June 22. The company has already confirmed that the phone will sport the latest Snapdragon 835 chipset and dual rear camera setup.
