While a few major news outlets pushed reports on OnePlus testing Android 7.1.1 Nougat on the OnePlus 2 unit, the Chinese tech company has shunned the story claiming it to be ‘fake news’. Just two days ago a report cropped up on the internet citing that the OnePlus 2 running Android 7.1.1 Nougat was spotted on the Geekbench listing. However, OnePlus took to its community forum to reply against the fake news that circulated around the web. A senior moderator on the OnePlus forum said, “Within the last 24h there appeared multiple fake news about an upcoming N update for OP2, which was fed by some test result on Geekbench mentioning Android 7.1.1 as version.” The moderator further said that the Geekbench test result was not official and it was run on some custom ROM for OnePlus 2 with Hydrogen2 OS application layer applied above it. “Any custom ROM with Android 7.1.1 would be identified as 7.1.1, probably any custom or official older ROM with modified builds.prop would also appear as 7.1.1 on Geekbench,” the moderator cited.
Reacting on the authenticity of news, the moderator blamed the outlets for reposting old news that were related to Android Nougat and falsely quoting other news sites. “All the recent news about isn’t any true journalism and just recycling of old information, pure speculation or just clickbait”, he said.
Essentially, the moderator mentioned that the information related to Android Nougat for OnePlus 2 is basically posted by the user named @ShortyEx in the OnePlus thread. The user summarises all the available information about the OnePlus 2 update and discussion on the about Android Nougat is done as well. He goes onto conclude his post by stating that there is no official ETA on the release of Android Nougat for the OnePlus2.
