Amazon Prime Day is here, and today’s Prime-exclusive deals are worth considering in case you are a Prime subscriber. Amazon is offering huge discounts on products across different categories. The sale starts at 6PM today and will last up to 30 hours. As part of the sale, Amazon is offering up to Rs 2,000 cash back to those purchasing OnePlus 5 (Review). But herein lies the catch: It is an exchange offer. Meaning, customers will have to exchange their existing phone in return to be eligible for cashback. What grabbed our attention is the way Amazon is promoting it, which reads “Extra Rs 2,000 back on exchange.” Hence, OnePlus 5 is likely to retail at a discounted price tag in addition to a cashback. (Update: OnePlus clarified that the device will not retail at a discounted price tag.)
“Amazon Prime members can avail Rs. 2000 cashback when they buy the OnePlus 5 (64GB or 128 GB variant) using an HDFC credit or debit card and additional Rs. 2000 back as Amazon Pay balance on exchange for their old phone on the 64GB variant. Members who buy the OnePlus 5 can also get a Rs. 250 discount on Amazon bestseller – Marsboy portable speaker,” OnePlus said in a statement.
In terms of real world usage, OnePlus 5 turned out to be a solid performer, thanks to Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 835 SoC. We did not come across any hiccups during our OnePlus 5 performance review. It handled all games and apps we threw at it smoothly and multitasking was not troublesome. It flaunts a full metal unibody which resembles Apple iPhone 7 Plus (Review) to great extent. The phone features a dual rear camera unit and antenna lines, which are pretty invisible and run along the top of the rear plate. It measures 7.25mm in thickness and weighs 153g.
The OnePlus 5 sports a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED panel with 401 pixels packed into every inch. It comes in two memory options: 6GB RAM with 64GB storage and 8GB RAM with 128GB storage. The device houses a 13MP wide angle lens alongside 20MP telephoto lens for digital zoom. There is also a 16MP front-facing camera for selfies. It is backed by a 3,300mAh battery that supports fast charging with OnePlus’ proprietary charging cable and adapter.
We tried to get in touch with OnePlus since Amazon has not put enough details about this deal on their website. We may update this story once OnePlus responds to our request.
Update (July 10, 2017/4:23PM): The story is updated with OnePlus’ statement.
