HMD Global recently unveiled the long-anticipated Nokia 8, the first true Nokia-branded Android flagship. The smartphone pegged with high-end specifications will hit the international market in September and it is already available for pre-order in certain regions. The flagship’s price was detailed at €599 which comes for around Rs. 45,000 after conversion. But interestingly, the new Nokia 8 might not be as pricey as the Finnish company announced during the smartphone launch event.
The smartphone is up for pre-order via third parties in some European countries- Germany, Russia. The Nokia 8 is available for pre-order in Germany from carriers O2 and Mobile Debitel for just €577 and €579 which is around Rs. 43,420 and Rs. 43,580 respectively. In addition, O2 is offering a free Nokia Steel smartwatch which retails at €129.95 (roughly Rs. 9,800) to customers who pre-order the smartphone. In Russia, the smartphone is available for pre-order via Megafon for €575 (around Rs. 43,300). Notably, the phone is also up for pre-order in Australia. The Nokia 8 is listed on the Australian carrier JB Hi-Fi for a price of AUD $899 (roughly Rs. 45,660).
As mentioned, the Nokia 8 will start shipping globally in September. In India, the Nokia-branded flagship will be available sometime in October according to HMD Global’s chief product officer Juho Sarvikas (via the Indian Express). Like any other flagship, the Nokia 8 carries highly-specced features that include- Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 835 SoC, dual rear camera etc. The camera being the highlight of the smartphone, it comes equipped with dual 13-megapixel sensors and implements a unique feature called ‘bothie’. The feature basically enables the user to capture pictures and videos using both front and rear cameras simultaneously with dual-sight mode. The handset is built out of a single block of series 6000 aluminium and it is available in four colours with two matte and two glossy finishes. It also has an IP54 rating and runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. HMD Global has promised that the flagship will be the fastest to get Google’s upcoming Android OS, Android O. As for the India price, it is expected to unveil closer to launch.
