HMD Global is expected to unveil its first Android-powered Nokia flagship on August 16. While specifications and features about the upcoming smartphone have already been tipped by several benchmarking sites, a new benchmark listing has cropped up on the internet revealing an interesting aspect. The listing which has been spotted on popular mobile benchmark site, Geekbench shows the Nokia 8 to be running Google’s newest Android OS, Android O.
The device on the benchmark is being listed under the codename ‘Unknown Heart’, the moniker which has appeared on Geekbench several times in the past. The listing shows the Nokia 8 to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset and paired with 4GB of RAM. Further, it is seen to be running on Android 8.0.0. While this looks interesting, the device in the listing could just be a prototype that is put under test.
Evidently, Google’s upcoming Android OS launch is just around the corner, and the final build as per usual is believed to arrive first to the compatible Nexus and Pixel devices. However, Nokia’s new flagship might also be on the list given that Nokia 6 recently received the July security patch ahead of Pixel devices.
HMD Global’s effort on software updates for its new Nokia handsets is commendable. Notably, some Nokia 5 users a couple of days back reported facing a Dolby Equaliser issue that basically prevented the device from open Dolby settings from certain music apps. The company was quick enough to respond the issue said that the firm’s developers were already working on a fix. While the estimated time for the fix was not mentioned it is expected that the company will roll out an update soon. HMD Global had previously promised that the Nokia trio will receive Android O update soon after its release.
Separately, leaked live images of the Nokia 8 also surfaced showing off the phone’s camera UI. The images leaked on Chinese social site Baidu reveal that the smartphone to have advanced shooter, unlike the other three Nokia Android smartphones. While we have learnt that the upcoming flagship will most likely feature dual rear camera sensors with Carl Zeiss lens, new images show that the Nokia 8 will sport three camera modes- RGB, dual camera and Mono. While tapping on the camera icon as seen on the image, users will get three options to choose- main camera, dual camera and the front facing camera.
