HMD Global’s latest flagship smartphone, the Nokia 8, recently received Android Oreo treat and the company is now preparing to bring the latest Android OS beta build to its mid-range handsets, Nokia 6 and Nokia 5. HMD’s Juho Sarvikas announced that these budget offerings will join the company’s Android Oreo Beta program soon.
The confirmation about the release of Android Oreo beta build on the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 was provided when Juho was asked about the update by a user on Twitter. “Yes, Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 next. Just reviewed today, we will open Beta Labs for those models soon,” the Chief Product Officer said.

Notably, the company announced in late September that it will release the Android Oreo update on these handsets ‘before the end of the year‘. Mark Trundle, HMD Global’s General Manager for Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia regions, confirmed the arrival of the latest Android update to the Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and even the budget offering Nokia 3 during an interview with Australian tech channel GadgetGaul.
HMD Global had earlier promised regular software updates for its Android-powered Nokia devices. The company just last week released Android Oreo update for Nokia 8 (Review) users in India. The file has a total size of 1518.1MB and includes November Android security patch update as well.
The Nokia 6 (Review) and Nokia 5 arrived in the Indian smartphone market for a price of Rs 14,999 and Rs 12,899 respectively. The smartphones were launched with Android Nougat out of the box. With the Oreo update, the devices will likely have some of the notable features of the latest Android OS like picture-in-picture mode, autofill from Chrome, notification dots and more.
