Earlier this month HMD Global sent out press invites for a Nokia event to be held on June 13 in India. While the press invite didn’t reveal much, the company has now confirmed that it will Nokia smartphones at the event.
The press invite comes with the tagline “Let’s join hands and welcome a new era of Nokia Smartphones”, which indicates the announcement of the Nokia Android-powered smartphones- Nokia 6, 5, and 3. Notably, HMD Global had already brought the revived classic feature phone Nokia 3310 in the country last month for a price of Rs. 3310.
While it’s just a week left on hand to see the supposed release of these smartphones in India, a report from NokiaPowerUser has revealed the pricing of the new Nokia smartphones. The report says that the Nokia Android-powered smartphones will be priced in the mid-category. The report further notes that the pricing of these smartphones in the Indian smartphone market will be close to the Nokia 6, 5, and 3 pricing announced in Malaysia.
According to the report, the Nokia 6 will be priced in between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 16,000. The Nokia 5 will cost around Rs. 12,000 while the Nokia 3, smallest of the three Android smartphones will be priced at around Rs. 9,000.
To recall, the Nokia Android smartphones along with the revamped classic Nokia 3310 were officially unveiled at MWC late February this year. Nokia 6, the high-end model in their new line-up features a 5.5-inch full HD display. It comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front camera and Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.
Nokia 5, sports a 5.2-inch full-HD display. Under the hood, it packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. For imaging, this phone packs in a 13-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel secondary camera. It carries a 3000mAh battery. The phone comes in four colour options- copper, black, silver and blue.
Meanwhile, the Nokia 3, smallest of these three touchscreen smartphones, is a budget device that comes with a MediaTek 6737 processor and 2GB of RAM. It sports 5-inch HD display with 1280×720 pixel resolution. It offers an 8-megapixel camera on the front, and an 8MP camera on the front as well. While the other two phones come with a full metal construction, the Nokia 5 comes with a polycarbonate body, albeit with an aluminium frame around it. All these smartphones are said to support 4G VoLTE.
HMD Global introduced a European price point of 229 Euros (roughly Rs. 16,000) for the Nokia 6 smartphone. The Nokia 5 meanwhile was announced with a price tag of 189 Euros (roughly Rs. 13,000). Nokia 3, the most affordable of the lot was tagged with a price of 129 Euros (approximately Rs 9,500).
HMD Global early this week had also confirmed that their smartphone line-up including the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 will be receiving the update for the latest version of Android, Android O as soon as it is made available by Google.
