HMD Global has launched the Nokia Android-powered smartphones at an event the company hosted in New Delhi, India today. The three smartphones- Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 as promised have landed in the country, and that too with an affordable price tag.
The company at its launch event said that it plans to increase their retail reach to 100,00 over the next few months. Nokia currently has 80,000 retail reach in the country.
To refresh, the top end smartphone, Nokia 6 was initially introduced in China and went on sale in the country early in January this year. The phone features a 5.5-inch full HD (1080×1920 resolution) display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The Nokia 6 runs Android 7.0 Nougat and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. The handset offers 32GB inbuilt storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. In terms of imaging, it sports a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front facing the camera for selfies. The device packs a 3000mAh battery.
Moving on, the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 were unveiled at Mobile World Congress late February this year alongside the Nokia 6 Arte Black Limited Edition and the revived classic feature phone Nokia 3310. The Nokia 3310 is available in India at a cost of Rs. 3,310.
The Nokia 5 features a 5.2-inch full HD display and runs Android Nougat out-of-the-box. The smartphone also packs a Snapdragon 430 SoC (system-on-chip) with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage which is further expandable via microSD slot (up to 128GB). For imaging, the Nokia 5 boasts a 13-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. Like the Nokia 6, the Nokia 5 has also been carved out of 6000 Series Aluminium. The phone packs a 3000mAh battery and supports 4G LTE.
Nokia 3, the smallest of these three Nokia branded Android smartphones is the most affordable of the lot. This budget device from Nokia sports a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels. The phone is powered by a MediaTek 6737 processor clocked at 1.3GHz. The handset offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage which is expandable (up to 128GB via microSD card). It packs a 2650mAh battery and supports NFC. The Nokia 3 carries 8-megapixel cameras both on the front and back.
Notably, HMD Global earlier last week confirmed that the Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Nokia 3 will receive the latest Android version, Android O when it’s made available by Google.
As for the pricing, the Nokia 6 has been priced at Rs. 14,999 while the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 has been priced at Rs. 12,899 and Rs. 9,499 respectively.
The top-end Nokia 6 smartphone will be made available exclusively on e-retail site Amazon India and registration for the phone will start from July 14. Meanwhile, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 will be offline exclusive and per-booking for Nokia 5 will commence on July 7. The Nokia 3 will go on sale this week on June 16.
Amazon India will provide a discount of up to Rs. 1,000 to Amazon Prime users if they pay via Amazon Pay. In addition, the Nokia 6 will come loaded with Amazon apps as well.
