Highlights

    • Nokia 3,5,6 confirmed to receive Android 8.0 Oreo update
    • The company earlier promised timely release of software updates & security patch fixes to its smartphones
    • It is testing Android Oreo on its flagship, the Nokia 8

Earlier this month, Nokia’s affiliate HMD Global officially confirmed that its three-budget offering- Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and the Nokia 6 will receive Android 8.0 Oreo update. However, the company at that time didn’t table out the exact time-frame as when it will release the update to these handsets.

HMD has now announced that the new Android-powered Nokia devices will get Android Oreo update ‘before the end of the year’. Mark Trundle, HMD Global’s General Manager for Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia regions, confirmed this during a recent interview with GadgetGaul, an Australian tech channel. This comes as good news for users who have purchased the Nokia smartphones and even those who are planning to pocket one. The Finnish company had earlier promised that it will release timely software updates including monthly security patch fixes to every smartphone that it release. Besides, it also mentioned that Nokia 3 is cheapest among the three Nokia Android smartphones which will be updated to Google latest Android OS version.

Further, HMD Global Chief Product officer just last week shared a few images revealing that the company is testing Android 8.0 Oreo update for its premium smartphone, the Nokia 8. The Nokia flagship marked its way to India on Tuesday this week for a price of Rs. 36,999.  The smartphone currently runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The device will be released across retail stores and Amazon India starting October 14. While its commendable for a startup to uphold its promise and make efforts on pushing software updates at regular span, it would be interesting to see how it helps the company increase its sales of the smartphones in the competitive market.
