HMD Global, the parent company for Nokia brought a few Android-powered Nokia handsets at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in February this year. The company unveiled its highly-anticipated flagship, the Nokia 8 in London this August. And while this premium handset is gradually hitting global markets, HMD Global now seems to be preparing to announce an entry-level smartphone, the Nokia 2.
The phone was first spotted last month in a FCC (Federal Communications Commission) listing. According to FCC documents the Nokia 2 might come with 4000mAh battery onboard. If the listing turns out to be true, then the device will have the largest battery capacity than what we have seen on a Nokia Android powered smartphone.
Previously, a few photos of the smartphone appeared on the FCC database revealing its design. Four variants of the supposed Nokia 2 also emerged on the US-based authentication website with model number TA-1023, TA-1035, TA-1007 and TA-1029. Apparently, the variants with model TA-1023 and TA-1035 might have LTE Band 5 enabled, as per the FCC document. The TA-1007 and TA-1029 Nokia 2 models meanwhile are tipped to be single-SIM and dual-SIM editions that support LTE bands 5,7 and 38.
As for the specifications, the smartphone is suggested to feature a 5-inch display with 720×1280 pixel resolution. The phone is said to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 processor. Reports also suggest that a MediaTek variant of the smartphone might hit select markets. Just like the new Nokia branded smartphones, the phone is expected to run a near stock Android Nougat. In terms of camera, the phone is rumoured to carry an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front facing camera. The entry-level Nokia phone is speculated to cost less than the budget friendly Nokia 3.
Apart from the entry-level offering, reports about the Nokia 9, the supposedly next flagship from the Finnish company have also emerged on the Internet. Reports suggest that the handset might arrive with a display bigger than the Nokia 8. The phone is tipped to feature bezel-less design, Snapdragon 835 and IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The supposed flagship device is speculated to debut by the end of this year.
