HMD Global unveiled a range of new Nokia-branded Android phones at MWC 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. The latest lineup includes Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, new Nokia 6 and Nokia 1. HMD also revived the iconic Nokia 8000 series with their first classic Nokia 8110, which now comes with 4G and some other improvements.
Of all the new additions (except for Nokia 1 and new Nokia 8110), Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and new Nokia 6 join the Android One initiative, a standard set by Google for third-party smartphone maker to ship phones that offer pure, unmodified Android experience.
On top of that, all three handsets put under Android One run Android Oreo out of the box. During the announcement, Nokia also claimed to be “the first global partner to have a full suite of devices into the Android One programme by Google.”
Nokia 8 Sirocco
In what appears to be successor to Nokia 8, this one has all flagship-like tendencies: A masculine stainless steel frame and a 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. And of course, there’s a dual rear camera with ZEISS optics. It will retail for a global price of €749 (approximately Rs 59,600) starting April this year.
Nokia 7 Plus
Powering this one has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chip and a 3800mAh battery, which is said to be well-optimised to deliver two days worth of battery life. This one also has a 6-inch screen with 18:9 aspect ratio to narrow down the size of bezels. Nokia 7 Plus will also go on sale from early April for good €399 (approximately Rs 31,750).
Nokia 6 (2018)
Successor to Nokia 6, this one is claimed to be more than 60% faster than its predecessor. With more compact screen-to-body ratio and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chip, it goes on sale in April with two variants: 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. It costs €279 (approx. Rs 22,200).
New Nokia 1 is put under Google’s Android Go initiative, which offers the latest Android experience on entry-level hardware offerings. It will be available for $85 (approx. Rs 5,550). Last but not least, new Nokia 8810 costs $79 (approx. Rs 5,110). It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 205 chip.
