The LG G6 has to be one of the most talked about phones of 2017, with the rumour mill buzzing with new details almost every day. The South Korean electronics manufacturer is all set to unveil its next flagship smartphone at a press event in Barcelona, on February 26, a day before the Mobile World Congress 2017 kicks off, at 4.30pm IST (12pm CET).
Leaks and rumours keep surfacing every day about the device, and we were to pick up anything from past experiences, we know that if the source is reliable, these leaks turn out to be more or less accurate.
However, these are speculations and we need to wait for the manufacturer’s event to get the final word on the LG G6.
Some of the earliest design rumours claimed that the LG G6 would come with a glossy finish on the back. Within a few days of that, there was another image leak that suggested that the LG G6 would also be available in a matte finish.
A “live image” leak showed the world what is supposed to be the LG G6, and in that image we can see that the device has a metal frame running around the device, with a brushed metal back panel. The design is also said to be water and dust resistant.
Some of the leaks have also revealed that the LG G6 will come with a 5.7-inch display, with a very unique 18:9 aspect ratio.
Features and specifications rumours
Processor – There have been conflicting rumours about the processor that would power the LG G6. Very early reports stated that the LG G6 would come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, while later many rumours claimed that it would feature a Snapdragon 821 chip, as seen on the Google Pixel.
Software – If the latter is true, the LG G6 would have two similarities with the Google Pixel, the second being Google Assistant, which would also make it the first phone after the Pixel to feature Google’s AI.
Camera – Since most manufacturers are now choosing to launch phones with a dual-camera setup, it is probably easily to believe that the LG G6 will also feature a 13-megapixel dual camera setup. Also, The UX 6.0 in the LG G6 will also bring a Food Mode and a mode that will combine two to hundred images in a loop and create animated GIF.
Sound – LG has confirmed that the LG G6 will produce better audio than the LG V20, which is considered to be one of the best in audio reproduction already. The LG G6 will feature a Quad DAC chip (digital to analog converter) similar to the LG V20. The LG G6 however will have an upgraded Quad DAC system that will control the left and right channels separately.
Display – According to the rumour mill, the upcoming LG G6 smartphone will feature a 5.7-inch (2,880×1,440 pixels) QHD+ LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It will have a pixel density of 564ppi.
Price and availability
LG will be unveiling the new flagship, the LG G6 in Barcelona on February 26 in Barcelona, and it is said that the devices would be available in Korea in March itself, and the US by early April. There’s no word on its availability in India, but going by how long it took LG to launch the V20 in India, it might be late. As a flagship device, it is bound to be positioned in the premium segment, priced at more than Rs 50,000.
LG has the oppourtunity to encroach upon Samsung’s market share after the Galaxy Note 7 debacle, and timeliness and competitive pricing would be the deciding factor for the LG G6’s fate.
